What an expert does after flooding

How an expert documents damage, checks causal links, calculates damage, prepares an opinion and assists in court.

The expert's tasks

The expert helps establish facts rather than emotions: what is damaged, where it is damaged, the scope of reinstatement work, its cost and whether the damage could be related to the reported flooding.

  • inspects the premises;
  • takes photographs;
  • compiles a list of damage;
  • assesses finishes, furniture, appliances and belongings;
  • compares moisture traces with the suspected cause;
  • prepares a specialist opinion or calculation;
  • helps formulate questions for court.
